However, a recurring theme in the past two seasons has been the team's inability to sign a truly big-name striker during the summer months. Last year they were linked to the likes of Stevan Jovetic, Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez, but for whatever reason, failed to ink any of them.
Granted, the Bianconeri went on to win their second straight Scudetto in emphatic fashion, dominating with their world-class midfield and a watertight defense. However, the Champions League is a different beast, and Bayern Munich exposed the real problem Juventus has.
It's hard to argue that this problem lies with its strikers. During the past two seasons, no Juventus player managed to score more than a dozen goals domestically—a truly bizarre figure for a team that was not only the Italian champion, but dominated with a nearly historic 49-match undefeated streak.
Their domestic prowess hasn't translated into Europe, as another gear was needed to compete with the true footballing giants. Strikers like Fabio Quagliarella, Alessandro Matri, Mirko Vucinic and Sebastian Giovinco might do well against provincial sides in Serie A, but fail to be the difference makers against a world-class defense.
Someone like Vucinic can be stellar on his day, but inconsistency has been the plague throughout his career, as he fails to be a consistent producer each week.
Gonzalo Higuain was supposed to be the big-time signing this summer, but recent reports state that Arsenal are close to finalizing the deal that would've given Juventus a truly formidable duo up front.
It remains to be seen whether or not this will be another summer of failed superstar courting for La Vecchia Signora. Even though Fernando Llorente could be a major improvement, he has hardly played in the past year after falling out with Athletic Club coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Even if they don't sign anyone, Juventus are the favorites for next year's Scudetto. It's time to mount a real charge in Europe to give the fans a much more important prize than simply another star on their kit.
